Data book for Millennials
What's the Story Behind This Book?
This project was born from two pivotal moments: during the final year of my undergraduate studies, Brexit happened, and I discovered Georgia Lupi's "Dear Data." In Brexit's aftermath, I watched interviews that left me shocked—some young voters didn't even understand what agreeing to Brexit meant.
Meanwhile, Lupi's work showed me how data could be interpreted visually, challenging my perception of data presentation. These revelations sparked a passion to educate and engage, inspiring me to create a book that transforms political data into visually appealing and accessible information.
This book unfolds in three chapters:
- The importance of your vote: We explore why your ballot matters more than you might think, especially given the potential for increased political engagement.
- The interest gap: We examine why only 17% of UK Millennials are currently politically engaged, despite a much higher willingness to vote.
- The tomorrow factor: We reveal that 67% of UK Millennials would vote if an election were held tomorrow—a stark contrast to current engagement levels. This highlights a significant opportunity to transform latent interest into active participation.
Why is it important?
Many UK Millennials believe that UK politicians focus more on the older generation as they are more likely to vote. But what if we could change that? This book is your guide to understanding politics, providing you with knowledge that could make a difference. It's not about dry facts; it's about empowering you to take an active role in the political process.
